Compare bitumen quotes fairly: grade, specification, packing, Incoterm, port, documents and inspection. A like-for-like RFQ checklist for importers.
How to Compare Bitumen Quotes: A Like-for-Like RFQ Checklist
Two bitumen quotes are only comparable if they describe the same product on the same terms. Differences in grade, packing, Incoterm, loading port or documents can change the true cost more than the headline price. This guide shows how to write an RFQ that produces comparable quotes and which lines to check when the replies arrive.

Why can't you compare bitumen quotes on price alone?
A price per tonne means little until you know what it includes. One quote may be FOB at the loading port and another CIF at yours. One may price new steel drums and another bulk. One may include independent inspection and documents and another may not. Comparing headline prices across these differences compares unlike things. Build the RFQ so every seller answers the same questions, then compare totals on the same basis.
What should an RFQ for bitumen 60/70 include?
Send every supplier the same information.
- Grade (for example bitumen 60/70) and the specification or standard it must meet.
- Quantity per shipment, or monthly volume.
- Packing: new steel drums, jumbo bags, bitutainer or bulk.
- Destination port and target Incoterm (FOB, CFR, CIF or DAP).
- Required documents: batch COA, PDS and SDS.
- Inspection requirement, for example independent third-party inspection before shipment.
- Payment terms you are able to offer.
Which lines should you check in each reply?
Put the quotes side by side in a table and fill the same rows for each.
| Line to check | Why it matters |
|---|
| Grade and specification | Confirms the product is the one you need, not a near match |
| Packing and quantity | Changes handling cost, storage and unloading equipment, and who can safely receive it |
| Incoterm and named port | Decides who pays freight, insurance and risk, and where |
| Documents included | COA, PDS and SDS should be named, not implied |
| Inspection | Who arranges and pays for independent inspection |
| Payment terms | Timing and mechanism, in writing |
| Validity and lead time | How long the price holds and when the cargo moves |
If a line is missing from a quote, ask for it before comparing prices.
What does the quote not show about packing?
Packing changes your cost after delivery as well as the price on the quote. Drums need unloading equipment, covered storage and drum-heating equipment, and some product stays on the drum walls. Bulk and bitutainer supply need heated tanks and pumps. A drum quote and a bulk quote are therefore not comparable until you add your own handling, heating and storage costs. Ask each supplier for the drum type, net weight and the recommended heating range, and check them against what your site can receive.
How do Incoterms change the comparison?
Incoterms set where responsibility and cost pass from seller to buyer. Under FOB you arrange main freight and insurance. Under CFR the seller pays freight to your port. Under CIF the seller also pays insurance. Under DAP the seller delivers to a named place. Always convert quotes to the same Incoterm before comparing, and add your own costs for the items the quote does not cover.
How do you send an RFQ to PetroBind Global?
PetroBind Global is a Malaysia-based bitumen supplier. Use the RFQ form with your grade (for example bitumen 60/70), quantity, destination port, packing preference and target Incoterm. PetroBind reviews availability, documents and logistics before responding, and quotes per RFQ. Prices are not published because they move with the market, freight, packing and Incoterm.
